Captain Alastair Cook: How he became an all-timer for England

    Sportsadda_14_AUG_Article-1

Sir Alastair Cook is seen as one of the greatest cricketers in England’s history. He is the nation’s second-highest run-scorer in Test cricket. He even had multiple accolades, including being the youngest player to reach 12,000 Test runs.

Over the years, Cook was one of the most consistent players in English cricket. For English cricketers, he remains the shining example for the top players. Here is how he became an all-time great for a talent-rich country.

Cook was superb from the jump

When Cook debuted for England’s Test cricket team against India in 2006, no one would have predicted that he would be an all-time great. He was a late replacement, but he did not show any signs of nervousness at the start of his career. He was composed in the jump, scoring 60 in his first innings.

In his second innings, he announced his arrival by scoring an unbeaten 104, proving that he had the calmness, patience, and technique that could make him a top player. England got a fantastic player in 2006, and he kept proving his worth as one of the country’s best-ever players.

Cook never looked back after that magnificent debut. He progressed well, and England benefited from his play. He was often at the top of the batting order, and he kept delivering great moments.

    A shining example of endurance

During his career, Cook played at the highest level for over 12 years without much drop-off in his performance level. That is a feat that only a few can match. He rarely missed matches due to injury, as his endurance and fitness allowed him to play 159 consecutive Test matches. That is a world record for any player in cricket. The longevity was not exclusive to avoiding injuries, as he also stayed relevant despite the ever-changing sport.

Despite some rough times for England, Cook was a constant. He found ways to bounce back whenever he had a rough performance. Over the years, Cook was always the man to watch for England, as he kept representing the country well.

    Cook performed when it mattered

Known as a run machine for some cricket fans, he was always a consistent match-winner for England. Stepping up whenever needed was a constant positive for Cook, headlined by his performance in the 2010-11 Ashes when he scored 766 runs, including three centuries.

Alastair Cook’s career is one to remember due to how he showcased discipline, production, and longevity. His records could be broken by other players, but he should be recognised as an all-time great.

Jack Grealish joins Everton on a season-long loan from Man City

    Sportsadda_13_AUG_Article-2

Everton FC has signed Jack Grealish on a season-long loan from Manchester City for their 2025-26 run. Jack completed his deal on Tuesday, August 12, which will cost Everton about £12m. The 29-year-old winger eyes this move as a way to regain his form after a tough spell at City.

Jack joined City in 2021 from Aston Villa in a £100m deal. He played a key role in the club’s winning season back in 2022-23, but his injuries have seen his minutes drop. He was also left out of City’s recent FIFA Club World Cup squad.

The football star now heads to Hill Dickinson Stadium after several offers to leave Man City. Only David Moyes was able to talk with him about relaunching his Premier League career, to which Jack responded, ‘I knew there was only one place that I wanted to go,’ and signed with them.

Jack hopes to take part in Everton’s Premier League opener vs Leeds United on Monday, August 18. This could be his chance to restart his career and prove his skills in the field.

  • Riot Games to add WASD controls in League of Legends

Riot Games to add WASD controls in League of Legends

    Sportsadda_13_AUG_Article-1

Riot Games will soon allow you to move your champion in League of Legends (LoL) using WASD keys instead of only point-and-click. This is the first major control change in 16 years, aiming to make the game easier for new and returning players who are used to standard PC controls. The classic mouse controls will remain available, and Riot promises both options will be balanced for all roles and skill levels.

The WASD system will first appear on the Public Beta Environment (PBE) in the next few patches. It will stay in beta while Riot fixes bugs, tests balance, and gathers feedback from casual, high-rank, and pro players. Ranked matches will only get the feature once both systems are equally viable.

Riot is also updating keybinding options, adding a dynamic locked camera, and introducing last-hit indicators in non-ranked games to help players learn. The goal is to make the game more accessible without changing what makes LoL unique.

Zach Vukusic named youngest cricket international captain

    Sportsadda_12_AUG_Article-2

Croatia’s Zach Vukusic has set a world record as the youngest captain in international cricket across all formats. At 17 years and 311 days, you would have seen him lead Croatia in a four-match T20 International series against Cyprus at Mladost Cricket Ground in Zagreb on Thursday, August 7. • Crystal Palace confirmed for Conference League after CAS ruling

Crystal Palace confirmed for Conference League after CAS ruling

    Sportsadda_12_AUG_Article-1

Crystal Palace will play in the Conference League this season after losing their appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). UEFA punished Palace for breaking rules about owning shares in more than one club in European matches.

John Textor owned part of Crystal Palace and Lyon, which both qualified for the Europa League. UEFA stated that this gave Textor too much control over both teams, which isn’t allowed.

At the appeal, Palace said Textor didn’t have real power in the club and was no longer involved. They also claimed UEFA mistreated them by not giving them the same deadline extensions as other clubs, like Nottingham Forest.

The CAS panel disagreed and rejected Palace’s claim of unfair treatment. After the ruling, Forest will move up to the Europa League, while Palace must settle for the Conference League.

Palace will face the team that loses the qualifier between Fredrikstad of Norway and Midtjylland of Denmark.
