New Zealand thrashed Zimbabwe by an innings and 359 runs at Queen’s Sports Club in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe on Saturday, August 9. This win happened to be the Black Caps’ biggest Test victory yet, as the series ended 2-0.
The Black Caps piled on 601 runs for three declared in their first innings. Rachin Ravindra top-scored with 165 not out, while Devon Conway made 153. Henry Nicholls also chipped in a powerful, unbeaten 150. Their dominant batting left The Chevrons with a high total to chase.
The Chevrons could only reach 125 runs in their first innings, as Matt Henry and rookie bowler Zakary Foulkes led the Black Caps’ bowling attack. In their second innings, the Chevrons were bowled out for only 117 after the other team declared.
The 359-run margin is New Zealand’s largest record in Test cricket. This surpasses their previous record of an innings and 301 runs vs Zimbabwe in 2012.
Darwin Núñez has left Liverpool to sign with Saudi club Al-Hilal in a deal worth around €53 million. The 26-year-old striker agreed to a three-year contract after scoring 40 goals in 143 matches for the Reds. Núñez joined Liverpool from Benfica for €75 million but lost his spot in the starting line-up under both Jürgen Klopp and Arne Slot. With new forwards Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz arriving, his game time was expected to drop even more.
Liverpool has now made nearly €200 million from player sales this summer, also letting go of Luis Díaz, Jarell Quansah, Caoimhin Kelleher, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Tyler Morton. Reports say the club wants to use the funds to chase Newcastle striker Alexander Isak after their £110 million offer was turned down. Newcastle is asking for up to £150 million.
At Al-Hilal, Núñez will play under coach Simone Inzaghi alongside stars like Rúben Neves, João Cancelo, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Aleksandar Mitrović. The team recently reached the FIFA Club World Cup quarter-finals.
Darwin Núñez is set to join Al-Hilal after Liverpool accepted a £46.3m offer, with add-ons included. The move will be final once he agrees to personal terms.
Núñez first showed interest in moving to Saudi Arabia in January. Liverpool turned down a £60m bid from Al-Nassr at the time. However, the striker and his camp pushed again this summer, and the club agreed to let him go.
Since arriving from Benfica in 2022, Núñez has had ups and downs. Liverpool paid £65m for him, with the deal rising to £85m through bonuses. He scored key goals but failed to lock down a regular starting role. He started only eight league games last season and struggled to fit into Arne Slot’s system.
Their £110m bid for Newcastle’s Isak remains on the table. The club is also considering Brentford’s Wissa and Aston Villa’s Watkins.
100 Thieves (100T) has brought Niship ‘Dhokla’ Doshi into its League of Legends (LoL) roster as the sixth man for the top lane. This move comes just a month after he joined the team as a coach in July 2025.
Dhokla is set to share the top lane role with Rayan ‘Sniper’ Shoura for the remainder of their League of Legends Championship of The Americas (LTA) North run. This change follows Sniper’s recent struggles with form, which also made the drafts and matches harder for the team.
100T head coach Greyson ‘Goldenglue’ Gilmer explained more of the change on his X (Twitter) account. He shared that Dhokla adds great skills and impact in both a cultural and competitive sense. ‘Sniper and Dhokla will share the spot to increase our flexibility in the draft…We’re looking forward to trying our best to qualify for Worlds,’ he added.
India captain Shubman Gill had an outstanding tour of England. He scored 754 runs with an average of over 75, including four centuries, and led his team to a 2-2 series draw. Stepping into the No. 4 spot after Virat Kohli’s Test retirement, Gill earned praise for his composure and leadership throughout the tour. He made a new record for the highest score by an Indian with 269 runs at Edgbaston.
On the other hand, former cricketer Ajay Jadeja said Ravindra Jadeja was the most consistent player in the series. He praised his 516 runs in tough conditions and seven wickets. This is the second-most by a spinner in the series. Ajay also talked about Jadeja’s strong mindset. He recalled big innings where Jadeja kept the team steady when under pressure.
After Rohit Sharma retired and star spinner Kuldeep Yadav was missing, India still did well. KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal gave the team strong starts. Rahul scored 532 runs, including two centuries. Former batting coach Sanjay Bangar commended Gill’s captaincy and Rahul’s reliability, noting how the team quickly adjusted to key lineup changes.
After months of being linked to Arsenal, Benjamin Šeško was passed over by the Gunners. The North London club opted to sign Viktor Gyökeres instead, mostly due to the outstanding valuation that RB Leipzig was putting on the 22-year-old Slovenian striker.
It would have been a golden opportunity for Šeško to join one of the best clubs in Europe. Now, he will be looking to join other English clubs, mainly Newcastle United and Manchester United.
Newcastle United want to get the Isak replacement
In the 2025 summer transfer window, Newcastle United have struggled to get their business going. That worsened when Alexander Isak made his stance known, as he wants to join Liverpool on a transfer. He is their star striker and best player, so losing him would be a massive loss for the club.
They want to keep the Swedish striker, but they also know this is the right time to cash in on their star player. Newcastle has set the transfer price at £150 million. If Liverpool cannot match that valuation, they will struggle with signing him as their new striker. However, that can change and decrease slightly if they acquire another striker for the squad.
That is where Šeško comes in, as he could be the ideal replacement for Isak. He does not have the most eye-popping numbers, but he has all the talent and physical tools to become the new star striker for the Magpies.
Man United wants to get the next great striker
The other club interested in getting Šeško is Manchester United. This is another striker signing they could make after their experiments with Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee have failed.
Šeško is talented, so Manchester United are willing to take the gamble. They might not have Champions League football in the 2025-26 season, but they want a star player like Šeško to lead the line for them as a striker to match up with other new transfers like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
If Man United can pull this off, the pressure is on, as they need him to become their next great striker. They have struggled to maximise their players’ talents, so this can be a double-edged sword.
Šeško could become one of the world’s best strikers
With his potential as a 22-year-old, Šeško could become a top player. He has the ball-striking power, but he can also link up well with his teammates, as he has great football IQ. His jumping ability also makes him one of the best headers of the ball.
It will be a massive signing for either Newcastle or Man United, as Šeško has the potential. This is a worthwhile gamble for either side’s future.
Pakistan’s build-up to the upcoming Asia Cup has sparked considerable debate, especially following their recent defeat plus victory combo, which left fans and analysts questioning their actual form.
With the tournament starting in September, pressure is mounting on whether this squad is truly ready to face Asia’s best. Here’s a closer look at the cricket team’s current situation:
Recent match results
Their last match left fans wondering whether they still have it or not since their second game with West Indies left them defeated by a narrow two wickets. However, both Day 1 and Day 3 proved they still have the guts to earn victory against their opponents. As a result, this gave fans, analysts, and enthusiasts the hope that Pakistan is still in their highest form.
Looking back at the results, some would say that the West Indies only got ‘lucky’ having only two wickets ahead of the team. Most would say yes, but the credit still goes to the team’s hard work. Despite that, Pakistan’s Day 1 performance is more than impressive, scoring 178/6. Their Day 3 victory—their most recent win—is enough evidence as they bagged 189/4.
The top players of the team
The Pakistan Cricket Board will soon announce its squad for the T20I tri-nation series and Asia Cup 2025. Despite Fakhar Zaman’s injury, there’s been no official talk of Babar Azam’s return, though both remain top players in the country.
Babar Azam
With 128 matches played under his belt and an astounding 4,223 runs scored, Babar can be one of Team Pakistan’s cards. He resigned as a captain because he wanted to lessen his workload. Babar prefers to be a player and focus on his batting skills. Currently, his batting average is at 39.83, which proves that he can be one of Pakistan’s main weapons for the upcoming Asia Cup.
Fakhar Zaman
Zaman is a close second to the top T20I player, as his experience of 97 matches vets his skill. He also managed to earn 1,949 runs in his short time in the field. However, he is currently suffering from a hamstring injury that has ruled him out for the rest of the match against the West Indies. He returned home to Pakistan on August 4, and hopefully, he’ll be back before the Asia Cup.
Recent statements
Captain Salman Ali Agha expressed confidence in Pakistan’s readiness for the upcoming Asia Cup despite a narrow two-wicket loss to the West Indies on Day 2 and a close victory on Day 3. He praised the team’s bowling and fielding, particularly the spinners, but acknowledged weaknesses in the powerplay batting and death bowling that still need improvement.
Serie A players will now receive 25% less pay if their club is relegated to Serie B. This is part of a new five-year deal between the league and the Italian Players’ Union. The rule starts for all new contracts signed after September 2, 2025.
Relegation in Italian football means a huge loss in money, especially from TV rights and sponsors. This new rule helps clubs stay stable by cutting player wages during tough times, but when a club returns to Serie A, full salaries will come back.
In 2022, each Serie A team made at least €23.5 million from TV deals. Serie B clubs, however, spent much less, about €10.6 million on wages, on average.
The wage cut only applies while the club is in Serie B. Also, the new deal protects younger players with a set minimum wage based on age, which stays the same even after relegation. The goal is to help teams handle the financial hit of going down a division. Serie A’s new season kicks off on August 23, 2025.
