  • Jasprit Bumrah’s Test performance draws criticism from Pathan

Jasprit Bumrah’s Test performance draws criticism from Pathan

    Sportsadda_7_AUG_Article-1

Irfan Pathan criticised Jasprit Bumrah for not making enough impact in India’s five-match Test series against England. Bumrah played only three matches and skipped the rest under the BCCI’s workload plan. India trailed 1-2 heading into the final game, so many expected him to return and lead the bowling attack.

Pathan felt Bumrah lacked urgency in key moments. He pointed to the Lord’s Test, where Bumrah bowled five overs to Joe Root. He believed Bumrah should have pushed for a sixth over to build pressure, but he held back.

Bumrah started strong with a five-wicket haul in the first Test. His form dropped in the following matches. In the Leeds Test, he didn’t take any wickets and failed to control the scoring. Pathan saw this as a missed chance for India’s lead pacer to take charge.

He rated Bumrah 6 out of 10 and said senior players must step up when the game is on the line.

  • New Zealand hit by injuries before second Test vs Zimbabwe

New Zealand hit by injuries before second Test vs Zimbabwe

    sportsadda image

New Zealand’s injury worries have grown as fast bowler Will O’Rourke has been ruled out of the second Test against Zimbabwe with a back injury. O’Rourke felt back pain on day three of the first Test and has gone home for further checks. Auckland Aces’ left-arm seamer Ben Lister, who was already with the team as cover, will now stay on.

The Black Caps are also missing fast-bowling allrounder Nathan Smith, who is out with a stomach strain. This led to the call-up of new player Zakary Foulkes. Bowling coach Jacob Oram stays cautious but hopeful about O’Rourke’s recovery. He stressed the need to keep him safe for the tours ahead.

O’Rourke bowled 13 overs without a wicket in the first innings of the opening Test but shone with 3 for 28 in the second before getting hurt. His absence could give Jacob Duffy or Matthew Fisher a chance to play their first Test.

Meanwhile, skipper Tom Latham is still uncertain whether he’ll play due to a shoulder problem, as New Zealand get ready for the second Test starting August 7.

  • Lyon seals £15m move for Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton

Lyon seals £15m move for Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton

    Sportsadda_6_AUG_Article-2

Lyon has signed midfielder Tyler Morton from Liverpool for £15m. The 22-year-old, born in Wirral, came through the Reds’ youth set-up at age seven and made his senior debut in 2021. He played 14 games in all competitions but found it hard to lock down a spot in the first team. Morton also spent loan spells with Hull and Blackburn in the Championship.

He heads to France after a fine run with England’s under-21 side, which won the Euro crown this summer. Lyon, who had been set to drop to Ligue 2 due to financial concerns, won their plea and will stay in Ligue 1.

Liverpool boss Arne Slot has spent more than £250m on new signings following their 2024/25 league win. To stay within Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) limits, the Reds have offloaded several academy talents, with Jarrell Quansah reportedly sold to Bayer Leverkusen for £35m last month.

  • Fans slam Riot’s AI use in an anniversary video

Fans slam Riot’s AI use in an anniversary video

    Sportsadda_6_AUG_Article-1

Riot Games is facing criticism after fans claimed the company used AI to make a celebratory video for Wild Rift’s 3rd year in China. The video was first posted on Weibo and later shared on Reddit, but it was removed after getting heavy backlash from viewers inside and outside of China.

Viewers noticed strange mistakes in the animation. Characters like Jinx, Yasuo, and Seraphine looked off. Yasuo had a different hairstyle, Aurora’s hair changed length, and Jinx was seen holding the wrong weapon. Seraphine, who normally attacks from a distance, was shown kicking enemies up close.

Fans believed the video, and even the song, were made using AI. Some called the animation weird and said Riot should not rely on AI, especially with their budget and history of strong visuals. They were upset that the company, known for hiring skilled artists, may have replaced human work with AI.

This isn’t the first time Riot has faced similar claims. In the past, another video was also believed to be AI-made. Riot has not released an official response.

Everton secures midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall after a £28m deal with Chelsea

    Sportsadda_5_AUG_Article-4

Chelsea have agreed to Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s transfer to Everton in a deal worth around £28 million. Everton will pay £24 million upfront, with another £3–4 million in possible add-ons.

Dewsbury-Hall was unsure about leaving Chelsea after a season where they won the FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Conference League. However, with limited playing time at Stamford Bridge and behind players like Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez, Dewsbury-Hall is now ready to move for more opportunities.

At the Premier League Summer Series, Everton manager David Moyes said, ‘I think there’ll be deals next week. I think we’re getting much closer, but I felt that four or five weeks ago as well. Obviously, we’re getting near the tickly bits and we’ve got to get some things done.’

Chelsea, which just signed Dutch defender Jorrel Hato from Ajax, is now focused on selling more players. French midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu, 21, is set to join Burnley, who are also in talks to sign striker Armando Broja.

  • India pulls off a narrow six-run Test victory against England

India pulls off a narrow six-run Test victory against England

    Sportsadda_5_AUG_Article-2

India pulled off a stunning win at The Oval, beating England by just six runs in their fifth and last Test match for the series on Monday, August 4. The visitors managed to defend England’s target of 374 runs, as they bowled out the squad for 367, which levelled the series 2-2.

England looked in control at 339 for 6, eyeing only 35 more runs to win the match and the series. However, India’s Mohammed Siraj had other plans. The fast bowler ripped through England’s bid, taking four wickets for 86 balls during the second innings. He later finished off with a fifer, taking a total of five wickets for 104 in the match.

This win marks India’s narrowest-ever victory by runs in a Test match. The previous narrowest margin was a 13-run victory against Australia in 2004. Siraj said after the game that he found strength with his late father. ‘Jaddu Bhai told me to back my defence and remember my dad,’ he shared.

  • Neymar linked to Juventus after Gleison Bremer’s bold call

Neymar linked to Juventus after Gleison Bremer’s bold call

    Sportsadda_5_AUG_Article-1

Juventus centre-back Gleison Bremer has openly asked Santos star Neymar to join him in Turin, adding new talk about the forward’s future. Neymar, 33, is now back at his first club after a poor run with Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia.

He first signed a six-month deal with Santos, planning to return to Europe this summer, but later chose to stay until the end of the Brazilian season. Reports now indicate that tensions have escalated, paving the way for a possible early exit.

Recent talk linked Neymar with a move to Marseille, but the French club rejected those claims as ‘complete nonsense’. Still, the Brazilian’s name continues to draw interest from European teams.

Juventus is the latest to be named, with comparisons made to Cristiano Ronaldo’s 2018 move to the club at the same age. Any deal, however, would probably need sponsor support to cover the costs.

Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, Bremer shared his excitement about the thought of playing with Neymar, saying, ‘Of course! It would be great to have someone like Ney here at Juve.’

The defender also spoke about teammate Douglas Luiz’s situation. The midfielder missed the start of pre-season without permission but has since said sorry to the club and teammates.

While Juventus isn’t actively trying to sign Neymar right now, the chance to bring him back to the Champions League remains an exciting thought. It keeps fans hopeful for a possible huge signing.

Chris Woakes ready to ‘put his body on the line’ despite shoulder injuries

    Sportsadda_4_AUG_Article-2

Chris Woakes is ready to bat on the final day of the fifth Test at The Oval, despite a suspected shoulder dislocation. With England needing 35 more runs and four wickets, his determination highlights his strong commitment to the team.

Woakes was already seen training batting one-handed. However, there is no guarantee that he can play for the rest of the summer, as the results of his full diagnosis are still unavailable. Despite all these, Woakes admitted that he is ready to ‘put his body on the line’ for the team and will be deployed if his team needs him.

‘It just shows the character and the person that he’s willing to put his body on the line like that for England, and hopefully – well, hopefully he doesn’t have to, but if it does come to that – get us across the line and win us an incredible series.’ one of Team England’s top player, Joe Root, said in a statement.
